I'd take Filatov, but Stamkos would be better. I don't want another dman.

I agree I think the cupboard is full for the next few years. They could take projects in the later rounds, but I want to see the next Joe Thorton or Mats Sundin with this years pick.

From what I understand, I would be thrilled to end up with either Stamkos, Filatov or Pietrangelo. All 3 sound like franchise-type players. Filatov's only real question is putting on weight without losing his speed.

Let's not kid ourselves, though...the Blues could always use more defensemen.

I think the Blues will also get another couple very good players in the 2nd round...since it looks like they'll have 2 picks in the top 5 of that round (although they might look to move up into the first round)

The Blues (or any team for that matter) could always use two or more stud defensmen. E.g. Pronger / MacInnis... Pronger / Niedermayer... Blake / Borque... etc, etc. Right now on the Blues I only see one of those type calibre players in the fold, Erik Johnson. After that there's a bunch of 4-5-6 guys. I too would prefer Stamkos, but if those other two D-men in the top 4 are all they're supposed to be cracked up to be, I won't cry over making that selection either. Russians make me weary.

There's still a possibility the Blues will screw this up and end up out of the top 3 or 4. So what's the deal with Kyle Beach, Cody Hodgson or Luke Schenn? I wonder if it's one of those drafts where maybe we get, lets hypothetically say, the sixth overall pick and we trade back to get two first rounders if the guy we like is off the board? Last year that happened when Columbus took Voracek right in front of us. BTW, I think that Voracek character is having a very solid year overseas.

Absolutely we could. But it would suck to have two Top 5 picks in 3 years and not come away with a future top line scorer/franchise guy.

We can't score to save our lives.

I too am weary of drafting a Russian that high. If we can't get Stamkos and we're at 3 or 4, it would seem to make sense to see if we can trade down to about 10. If we stay put, Kyle Beach has good size and pretty excellent scoring touch.

Or we could trade up to get the first pick from LA... I'm thinking our first + Janssen should seal the deal.

Beach is absolutely insane, could either be very good or not make it to the NHL at all for some time...that sort of player.

Schenn looks to be very good, a better version of Ian Cole...he would be a legit #2 for the Blues and a possible #1 for many teams. (and once again I curse that the Blues did not get in on trading, say, Polak and McClement for Jack Johnson and Tverdovsy...)

Hodgson I am not terribly familiar with.

                          Trade Janssen?
And lose those precious grit points?

You guys will probably flub tonight's game, only to come back with a vengeance against the Sharks on Friday.
