  • Anyone Know About Maryville, Mo.?

There's a job there and we are thinking about it. It would put us back in Missouri (although it might feel like Iowa) and closer to home. It's a lateral move, though, and I want to hear any info anyone has on Maryville and NW Missouri State.

I know all about Skidmore and the vigilante killing.

Just want an idea of the people and the landscape, if anyone has an idea. You Iowa cornshuckers are welcome to add your two cents, since it borders your fair state.

I know I blow by it on my way up to Omaha to visit my family 2-3 times a year.

Home of Northwest Missouri State, so it is a college town.

just an hour or so to either Kansas City or Omaha so you can get some 'big city culture'

My stepmom is from there. She is nice but does she get on my nerves. Her driving scares me to death. She talks a lot. Hope that helps.

Yeah, it's got that nice, isolated quality we love, but is close to major metro areas.

                      So does Texas.
Nature always sides with the hidden flaw.

We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.

I frequently visited a great uncle who taught at the college there for many years. Very nice small town.

My brother graduated from NWMSU in '89 and Maryville is where my aunt met my uncle met and married at. My aunt was an English professor at the college and my journalist uncle worked for the paper. So I've been there a few times, but not recently.

Maryville is pretty much flat farmland country, as much of the northern 1/3rd of Missouri is, but its an hour north of St Joseph (80,000 people) and about an hour and half north of KCI and two hours from downtown KC, so its not too far from "civiliation".

And you'll be happy to know that in the recent Missouri primaries, Nodaway county (where Maryville is) stood out as probably the only rural Missouri county that went for Obama over Hillary
“I’ve always stated, ‘I’m a Missouri Tiger,’” Anderson said March 13 after Arkansas fired John Pelphrey, adding, “I’m excited about what’s taking place here.”

Asked then if he would talk to his players about the situation, he said, “They know me, and that’s where the trust comes in.

                            Decision. Made.

                            Thanks for the input, guys.

I really wanted something a little more hilly, since it's so flat here. There are trees there, though, no?

Anyhoo, have a good Monday, ya'll.

Oh yeah, when my aunt and uncle got married (about 1980), the wedding took place right in the middle of when Maryville was under attack from a tornado.

The tornado did do some damage, tore up a trailer park and stuff.
