  • Into The Wild

    I watched it this weekend.

Solid flick. Pretty entertaining. Of course it's somewhat depressing, but it's well done and worth your time.

I am halfway through it...will finish it tonight. So far, quite good.

    The book was excellent.

I expected it to be more documentary style and depressing to all hell, but it's actually an entertaining movie with a great storyline that's apparently remarkably close to truth. I sincerely recommend this movie to everyone.

Isn't the dude that wonders off "into the wild" a complete jaggoff, though? Thinking he could survive in Alaska with a .22 and some rice doesn't seem like the brightest idea to me, anyway. Call me crazy. I think I'll sit my sons down when they are old enough and have them watch it to show what arrogant thoughts can lead to......death.

That's what the movie starts making him out as....but as it moves on, they dive further into his family life and upbringing and then show how he changes his view of the world because of the relationships he builds during his journey. In the end he's a completely different person.

In fact, he did survive for 112 days with a .22 and some rice.

I haven't seen the movie, but the book gives a really good idea of where he was coming from.

                  He was an interesting person.

At times, I wanted to punch him in the face. At others, I had some sort of sympathy for him. An idealist, for sure.

Most of the time I wanted to punch him in the face, at least in the book.

Definitely an intriguing personality. I felt like had he made it out of the wild, he would have done some amazing things with his life.

Interesting. I'm sure I'll watch it, but my only info on the young man is from those who have read the book and/or watched the movie. If he was running from a shitty home life, I can't say I blame him. I think I'd have chosen another path, but to each his own.....I guess.

No, his home life was perfectly fine, really.

He was an odd person. Big blind spots, big cruel streak, great gifts. I agree with the post above that he could have made something of himself if he'd come out of Alaska and gotten his shit together.

The conclusion I came to from reading the book was that the kid was seriously mentally disturbed.
