  • MVC Final - Drake v ISU

OK Schwa, your Bulldogs against my Redbirds. Both looked impressive today. Drake is in the Dance for sure, ISU maybe. Should be a great game. Drake has won both games this year I think, tough to win three, especially on a "nuetral" court.

Illinois St. is one of the hottest teams in the country right now....thus, I think their current momentum carries them to victory and an automatic spot in the tournament....

Well, at least this is the final matchup it should be - no two teams more deserrving in the MVC this year.

The bubble-riders will be watching this one closely.

Well - the Red Birds obviously showed more fatigue - I still think they are in the dance.

        Selection Sunday will be interesting.

        I'm pulling for them.

I didn't get to see the game and was surprised by the blowout score. Last I heard on the radio early in the game ISU was up by for or so. Drake must have gone on a hell of a scoring run.

In other MVC news, Barry Hinson was fired yesterday as Missouri States' coach.

9 years at the helm, no NCAA tournament appearances is the primary reason, although they truly did get screwed big-time one year when their RPI was ranked 21st and 4 or 5 other MVC schools got invited. That was the highest RPI of any team ever that didnt get invited. And if you look at the top 10 list of teams that were highest in RPI that didnt get an invite over the last few seasons, SMSU (now MSU) occupies at least 4 of the top 10 spots. They got screwed a few times that way when Alford was coaching there.

Hinson averaged 19 wins a season and graduated something like 44 of 46 of his players and by all accounts is a good guy who runs a clean program, so I have mixed feelings over his firing. Not sure that too many other coaches that would want to coach here could do better.

“I’ve always stated, ‘I’m a Missouri Tiger,’” Anderson said March 13 after Arkansas fired John Pelphrey, adding, “I’m excited about what’s taking place here.”

Asked then if he would talk to his players about the situation, he said, “They know me, and that’s where the trust comes in.

watching drake is a pleasure. that is closest to how basketball was meant to be played as i have seen in a long time. nothing close to the rugby most teams think is basketball.

                  Thanks -

Lets hope it translates to a nice run.

OK, they're my hometown team, but this is absolutely true. They are a joy to watch.

i said it first, the team that will beat them in the tourney will be in a game where the refs swallow their whistle's and just let the drake opponent beat the hell out of the bulldogs.

They've really got no answer for a talented big man. That will be their Achilles' heel. But they have stepped up their defense in the second half of the season. If they're hitting threes, they can hang in there.

"talented big man" is a loosely used term. i consider lew alcindor or bill walton "talented big men" i consider shaq or say ben wallace oversized linebackers that really dont play basketball.

I'm thinking of that big guy from North Carolina -- Tyler what's his name. Drake has never played anybody close to that caliber this season. You can score inside on them.
