I assume you know that this is a waste of time, since there is no chance a new holiday will be declared, right? A holiday costs tens of billions of dollars, and if anything, it's more likely that one will be removed rather than one being added.

OTOH, St Patrick's day is at least as deserving as Thanksgiving or Easter, so you have my vote.

I can understand an atheirst non caring for Easter, but what's wrong with Thanksgiving? Quite a few cultures celebrate a time of being thankful. I remember this from my time in South Korea. http://www.clickasia.co.kr/about/h815.htm

Speaking of the real St. Patrick, I think that I read somewhere that he was a teetotaler. Which seems odd than most people use his day of celebration to get rip roaring drunk.

Why would we want 3/17 to be a holiday? Personally, I'd want the day after to be a day off.
            Of course you do.

I think opening day of baseball season should be a legal holiday.

I'd rather have them on Fridays.

If this becomes a holiday then I propose "Day After Super Bowl Holiday".

Atheism has nothing to do with it. Easter in the United States is about bunnies that distribute striped chicken eggs, not about the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. It's a remnant of a pagan ritual, even in Europe. Christmas is much the same, because the generally-accepted historical evidence says that Jesus was probably born in September. But a winter celebration is common enough around the world, so I'm OK with it.

Thanksgiving is a bullshit made-up holiday, invented by a magazine to have a reason for a special issue. Practically everything you think of as fact about Pilgrims and Indians is pure fantasy, and frankly, I don't like the fact that they teach my kid in school that it's historical when it's not.

So are you saying we should have a Federal Reserve Holiday on St. Patty's day, like Columbus Day, MLK Day, Columbus Day, etc? That's dumb. Corona should petition that Cinco De Mayo be a National Holiday also since it's another adopted American Amatuers Get Wasted and Drive Home Day.

It is true that I'd rather have another holiday in Spring instead of all lumped in at the end of the year. Like I said, if they want to swap St Patty's for Thanksgiving, I'm all over it.
