Rams re-sign guard Goldberg, add tight end Becht

    15 hours, 1 minute ago

ST. LOUIS (AP)—The St. Louis Rams re-signed guard Adam Goldberg on Thursday, and agreed to terms with tight end Anthony Becht.

Goldberg played in the first four games last season before being place on injured reserve with a knee injury. He played in 15 games for St. Louis in 2006.

Becht, a nine-year veteran, played 48 games for Tampa Bay the last three seasons. A first-round pick of the New York Jets in 2000, he has 133 career receptions for 1,164 yards and 17 touchdowns in 78 games, 74 of them starts.

From 2002-06, Becht started in 96 consecutive games.

It's the new offense -- nine TEs. Everyone is an eligible receiver.

Hopefully this could mean the end of Byrd...

I don't get it. Maybe I would if we actually threw to the TE once in a while but we had McMichael last year and didn't even use him. Plus, all the other clowns.

Becht is a off off tackle, not a reciever.

Good, so he is the 'Jumbo' set tight end. So Byrd has to be gone right? and (another draft day bust) Klopenstein? Oh that's right, they need 4 TEs

This guy is an automatic upgrade over Aaron Walker and Klopfenstein as a blocking TE. McMichael will actually be used as a receiver this year, which ought to improve our center-of-the-field offense. I'm OK with this signing.

I'm not sure I agree Klopfenstein is a bust. He played decently as a rookie and then was completely misused last year. He is never going to be a big blocking TE and the team knew that when the drafted him. He could probably be decent in the H-back role. I'd like to see what Saunders can do with him before declaring him a bust. After all, he caught the only pass they thew towards him last season.
On my mind: How can I shut up the singing English graduate student? How many more lossess will KU's basketball team have than its football team? How will the Rams front office screw up this year?

Perhaps...but its not looking good with him after 2 years. With a #2 you have to get guys who can come in and be at least a useful starter.

I agree in principal TTB, but here is a place where Linehan seems to be the problem. The kid played fine and needed to work on his blocking his first year. Not great, but showed he could do things. His second year he got totally misused by Linehan, who tried to make him into something he wasn't -- a blocking tight end. I'll be you $20 their scouting report the year the drafted him said, "Needs to work on blocking...alot." They drafted him to catch the ball and then never throw it to him.
