Rams should make a run at Alan Faneca AND Jacob Bell @ OG. That would instantly make the line respectable to good.

I would also take a serious look at Benard Berrian if the bidding doesn't get out of control. He's got the ability to stretch the field...but because they still have the Bennett contract they can't afford to pay that much for just speed.

Problem is salary cap. I've read the Rams are constrained by the cap even with the recent restructuring of LL.

I'm sure we can free up some more $$ but doubt it'll be enough to sign our rookies (with that #2 pick) and these FA players.

They have something like 4 offensive linemen currently under contract for next season...they've got to have money somewhere.

You know, if the Rams are truly that held up by the salary cap perhaps they could part with one of their TE's.

Here's the trade for the Rams to make (with draft value from chart):

              Rams trade:
              #2 overall (2600) to
              Cowboys for:
#22 (780), #28 (660), #59 (310), 2009 1st rounder. If the Cowboys pick 20th overall next year, it's perfectly even. If they finish lower than that, then the Cowboys actually end up ahead in the deal.

              Thoughts?

I'd rather have an impact guy at number two, though that may be short sighted and dumb. There's probably better deals.

I think the rams would absolutely find a way to turn that into a bad trade. In any case, i don't see great value in those late 1st picks unless you have a lineman and WR you have going there.

The problem is that there are so many positions of need, and especially drafting #2 the Rams simply won't have the cap room for it.

This would be a chance to get 4 legit starters this year (1st and 2nd round picks), and have 2 #1s next year.

They could land a WR like Limas Sweed, a QB like Joe Flacco, and a DE like Philip Merling or Calais Campbell...or a an LB like Keither Rivers or Dan Connor.

The best part about picking 22 and 28 instead of #2 is that if you miss with 22 or 28, you haven't screwed your cap up for years.

There are a number of WRs and OLs/DLs that are mid to late 1st rounders.

I think the trade down only makes sense if you can get two impact line players in free agency - Faneca and Smith, for instance.

The Eagles just signed Asante Samuel to a six year deal. I don't know the dollar amount but I'm hearing it's huge.
