    The former Pittsburgh Steelers announcer known for his screechy voice and for creating the Terrible Towel has died.


    PITTSBURGH -- Myron Cope, the screechy-voiced announcer whose colorful catch phrases and twirling Terrible Towel became symbols of the Pittsburgh Steelers during an unrivaled 35 seasons in the broadcast booth, has died. He was 79.

      That's too bad. He was to Pittsburgh what Mike Shannon is to us here.
      Not the most eloquent radio voice in the world. But he was one of "their own." Rest in peace.

        IMO, those kind of guys are what made radio something special, in as far as listening to sports is concerned. I get a kick out of hearing Ron Santo on the Cubs radio. Then there was the Boston Celtics announcer with that gravely voice, who's heard on the play in whick Bird steals the inbound pass against the Pustons and dished the ball to Dennis Johnson for the layin.

        I love the old timers in sports announcing.
