  • The future of Television - the end of the Hula Hoop for the Mind

One thing is becoming clearer to me - the more we watch the less we like. What was once enjoyable and an afternoon activity is now passe.

The writers strike pointed out one thing - we really don't need TV. If it's not a sport - I pretty much don't watch. I have one show I watch - Lost - and I can miss that. The only comedy I find funny is Office. SNL which was my staple - I haven't seen a show live in years.

Cable is all reality TV. I don't understand what's great about watching rich people are wannable rich people screw up. They are like long Jerry Springer episodes.

I also see film's in trouble. Never bought a bootleg in my life - but I think I could find access to them.

Given a choice between watching TV are reading back threads in the Lounge - I'm all over the lounge.

The only channels I watch are History, Travel, National Geo, Discovery, DYI, etc. plus the HD non-network channels unless its sports. I haven't watched a major network regulary scheduled show in years.

It is interesting how sports has exploded in popularity over the past 20 years while television is on the decline.

The internet and the endless number of cable stations has actually been a huge boost for the popularity of sports while having the opposite impact on TV.

I love Law and Order (not svu though), documentaries, Project Runway and Top Chef. I'm a big fan of Dog Whisperer. I catch bad girls every now and then...what a complete trainwreck.

I am amazed that bad girls is on Opera's channel -

          It has no redeeming value.

Watching the food channel always makes me hungry -

They should list the calorie and fat content of those meals to slow you down. A week ago I watched a guy make some pancakes that were light and fluffy and probably 500 calories a pancake. It's all I can do to not go into the Courtesy Diner and beg for a stack.

last year bad girls was annoying but not this bad. this is like watching a wreck at teh side of the road. it was like bitch, bitchy, slut, mean girl, don't mess with girl etc. this year it's bitch bitch bitch slut slut slut slut&thief.

the food channel is okay when they are cooking stuff I am not familiar with... watching sandra lee grill chicken tenders is not that interesting (maybe it is for guys). I don't like the shows where they go to restaurants. big effing whoop....I can go to any restaurant and watch people eat.

good topic. Hardly anything worth watching on TV nowadays. Forget ESPN Classic, I can't wait until the MLB Network appears on cable...

I watched paranormal state last night. some of those episodes absolutely creep me out. There's another show about hauntings that freaks me out too....

now I am scared of demons.
