  • Cardinals hope long-shot Gonzalez pays off

JUPITER, Fla. -- Manager Tony La Russa pointed to a side field in the Cardinals' complex, smiled and said, "One of the great ironies of spring training -- Juan Gonzalez's first official offensive responsibility of the spring: sacrifice bunting. I asked him if he had ever done that. He said, 'Three times. The manager got fired.'"

Juan Gonzalez is 38 and hasn't played a major league game in two years, but he's taking a swing at an opportunity with the Cardinals.

Lets hope he show that he wants to be in the Big Leagues. His last few years he was just going through the motions.

I hope he keeps going through the motions so he's not in the Birds on the Bat on Opening Day.
His mind is not for rent, to any god or government.
