  • The McCain Experience Argument

When it comes to the economy, does a President's role in economic policy require multiple terms in the Senate? It is economics, I don't understand how this is an experience issue. I am looking forward to the general election. Should Obama win, his constant response should be on "issues" like this, I am smarter than you. I am in better position to make decisions than you. We will be fine.

Sometimes the resentment of intelligence in this country pisses me off.
Nature always sides with the hidden flaw.

We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.

IMO, long term expierence within the Beltway is a negative. Hell, that's why I voted for Perot, twice.

I will acknowledge that, in some areas, experience is important. I also find it hilarious that Hillary Clinton is playing the Washington experience card when her husband was elected as a governor with no experience in Washington.

You do have a point, though. If one is less experienced, one is less likely to be indebted to special interests.

My point was specific to the economy, however. I swear, if I was Obama, my theme would be I am smarter than you, and I will make better decisions than you. Our elected leaders should be the best and brightest, and you are not part of the club.

If you want to be technical about it. It did work for Gore.

Al Gore can't touch Obama's intellect. Al Gore also would have won if Ohio labor wouldn't have voted for the candidate that was most likely to cause them unemployment.

Al Gore also has the problem that he can't sell a truck to an Escort owner with a pile of coal.

              Better response than mine.

If you want to get technical about it, Gore should have won by 10 million votes.

How exactly are we measuring intellect?

Truthfully, the "i'm smarter than you line" would likely lose Obama 10000 votes every time he said it. This will be painfully more true when he has to go before the american people and better outline his ideas, rather than compete in a popularity contest with the most unpopular girl in school.

The pompous, I'm smarter than you act helped lose Gore an election he should have won easily.

And no Kah...its wasn't because a good man like Ralph Nader excercised his rights as an American and stayed in the race. Your hero Gore just plain blew it. He lose to a chimp for chrissakes. I still don't know how he managed it. FL not withstanding. It shouldn't have been close.

Furthermore, presidents don't create jobs or start companies. The best thing they can do is keep taxes low, the budget balanced and the economy will mostly take care of itself. Unfortunately, no president since Kennedy has done this and Johnson immediately vastly increased government spending and screwed up the rapidly growing economy that Kennedy had helped to put in place with his massive tax cuts early in his administration. Shoot, Clinton did just half of that scenario and look how good that economy was. Imagine how it would take off if we all had more of our own money and the government was not sucking up all the credit by running huge deficits.
