  • Auto Club 500 Discussion Thread

OK, Daytona is over, which leads us up to discussion for the next race at the California Speedway, the Auto Club 500........

An interesting weekend at Daytona as we found out that the Toyota teams are for real, especially Joe Gibbs Racing and that the Dodge's look like they don't want to be the cellar dwellars of this years makes......

Being a Roush Fenway fan, I was highly dissapointed in all drivers except Biffle, who I thought overachieved just a bit despite a decent history at Daytona....I honestly thought Edwards would have at least a top 10 as he was running pretty fast in testing up to this race......Jamie McMurray was crap in this race and keeps on proving that he will probably be the odd man out when Roush has to narrow down there team to four drivers....

Looking ahead to next week, I see the following three racers being my top picks to win in Cali:

    * Ku. Busch - After a crappy starting position and almost being taken out midway through with a nice recovery from the grass area, Ku. Busch proves why he one of the best, despite IMO being one of the biggest pricks in the series.

    * Kenseth - A very bad showing at Daytona, but I feel he will rebound and live up to his predictions as a true challenger in this years series.

    * Ky. Busch - The kid is good and always finds a way to be somewhere near the top. Hell, sometimes I think he is better than Stewart with his consistency, but he and Gibbs and their marriage with Toyota could prove to be a lethal combination throughout the season.

I'm gonna go with Harvick or Johnson.

California is a flatter track than Daytona so the handling with the car is going to be more of a focus than it was at Daytona. With that in mind, I think Childress and Hendrick set up their cars a lot better at handling tracks than the other teams.

My darkhorse picks would be ku.Busch or Reed Sorenson.

Kenseth or Carl. Roush owns this place. Harvick had a good car last year, but had gas issues at the end. This place destroys motors.

I'll be there so I'll provide some updates.

Which means the Toyotas aren't ones to bet on.

Which begs the question to be asked: If a Toyota engine goes up in flames does it smell like fried rice?
