  • This is what Mizzou has been missing....

..a point guard makes a coach look much better or worse than reality. This sounds just like what the doctor ordered.

I think with a good point guard they will be a lot better next year.

Even with this latest streak I'm not all that hopeful for this season.

I hope so. But I wouldn't be surprised if after a disappointing start next year, we start hearing about how we're weak in the middle after losing AJ and Travon.

      It's always something.

It's knowing how to evaluate a point guard and recruiting the right one into your program that makes the coach look good.

I think Conley should play a little more point. He at least keeps the defender off of him and puts pressure on the D-----something McKinney doesn't do.

I wouldn't be shocked to see this season turn out to be very similar to 2001----up to this point it is almost identical.

Quin got Clemons and Pulley out of desperation. I don't think that was bad evaluation as much as a quick fix to a bad problem. Stokes wasn't that highly ranked.

THis is the first kid that looks real good on paper. This is a coach's son, a D-I players brother, and a very talented kid on the #7th best team in the country. Yes, i'm excited.
Why would the head basketball coach at the University of Missouri have to recruit out of desperation?

Horton will definitely help things next year but I'm not sure if he can offset the loss of AJ and TB. I don't think we'll miss Paulding that much as we seem to have a lot of talented guards - Conley, Gardner, Mckinney and now Horton. We'll be a little lacking on offensive talent in the paint. Other than Klieza who is only around 6' 7" I believe, we have Young who still can't shoot, Grimes coming in who word has it is a bit lazy and a couple more recruits. Whether or not Ferguson comes back next year may actually turn out to be important but that doesn't look good either.

Kleiza's talent level far exceeds that of Johnson and Bryant. He just needs to stay under control. Young will just need to be a defensive presence and smash a few putbacks----which I think he's capable of doing.

Kleiza is unbelievably talented. He can do it all.

Uhhhh, because he didn't have a point guard. I'm not sure why he didn't. You know, it's not that incomprehensible that a D-I program is missing a piece. It's just to bad we have been missing the main piece.
Everything in your quote is a valid criticism against the head coach.

Stokes was allowed to leave. Why? Clemons was not really a point guard. Pulley was horrible. The last two were also known to be bad characters.

The most crucial thing missing may not be the point guard.

Programs that win titles (conference, regional, national) don't have "missing pieces."

Which is why we haven't won those things you mentioned.

Obviously, Quin is responsible for not having a capable point guard. He's got a top flight one coming next year that seems to carry all of the intangibles that the others guys didn't.
