Titans decline to tag Kearse as franchise player

Kearse tops a list of five Titans about to enter the free agent market. Reese has been talking with agent Drew Rosenhaus about a long-term contract for Kearse, who led the team in sacks four of his five seasons. But the Titans decided the franchise tag, which would have guaranteed Kearse a one-year salary of $6.5 million, created more problems than it solved.

The Titans are about to go through major cap hell.

Anyway, Kearse hasn't been a great player since 1999. He's constantly hurt and he's often a non-factor. He can be a dominant force at times but he is nowhere near as good as he was as a rookie.

I don't think any team is thinking of paying Wistrom Michael Strahan money. Some team will overpay for Kearse because pass-rushers are in such demand.

Well, I agree with you that the Rams shouldn't be overly concerned about keeping Wistrom...but Kearse shouldn't be the reason why. Since they already have Little, they don't need anything more than a solid guy on the other side (John Engelberger might be a good guy for them). They need to be using those cap dollars on some fat defensive tackles.
