  • I Finally Got a Job

I work at Quizno's. Today was my first day. The people that work there are pretty cool, and the job is pretty easy. Hardest part is remembering which subs are which, what goes on each sub, etc.

I've been putting in applications for over a year, and I'm finally employed! Now I can buy stuff without moochin' off my parents. B)

    Congrats!

They are opening a Quiznos around the corner from me. It's only the second Quiznos in the City of Philadelphia.

Beautiful. I'll have a grilled chicken breast on wheat, mustard, LIGHT lettuce - LIGHT DAMMIT! - tomato, green peppers and some italian dressing... melt some provolone on there while you're at it. And make it the combo, I'll take a bag of Fritos and a Diet Coke. Make it snappy, I don't have all day.

          Six-something. I forgot.

kconn - I'm just the wrapper, man. I just take your sandwich out of the oven, put lettuce on it, and wrap it.

            Save,

            Which location?
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

Glove - are you serious? It took a year to get a job at Quizno's?

Honestly, I'm not being a smartass. Where else did you apply? I know the job market is tough, but I didn't know it was that tough. Wow.

You should have them put "Skippy" on your nametag.

I didn't get the Citimortgage gig last week...they called me last Thursday to tell me they made an offer to someone else and they accepted...struck out again there....

I applied for positions with some companies, including Enterprise's marketing department and through Stivers, a replacement agency....

I've been signed up w/ the Creative Group looking for gigs and just sent off some of my stuff to Creatives On Call for some help....

I'm just having a hard time right now...I was (and to some extent still) depressed I didn't get the gig...I thought alot better aboot this than I did than I have anything else and the person accepted....

Hang in there! You're going to get something that is perfect for you.

In 1999 I went job hunting. Worked out a really nice position in IT managing multiple refining sites' technology for an oil company based in St. Louis. I'd be handling all aspects of the technical for 10 sites. I was excited.

I met with the HR person, my future boss, two of my future peers and all was well. The last thing to do was go to lunch with a person who'd report to me. We went to lunch in Clayton and I was struck by two things: 1) How much he bitched about the company and not being considered for the position and 2) The lack of technical questions.

When I returned the HR person said I should have an offer the in the next few days. They came and went. I couldn't get an answer from the HR person, so I called the recruiter. He tried for two more days. Finally they called him and told I wasn't technical enough.

It then hit me what happened.

I was so pissed I couriered over a copy of my books, the last five functional specifications I completed and the last three project documentation binders to the hiring manager. Never heard from them.

I was so depressed as it was my "perfect" job. As it turns out, I found the position I am in shortly after that and it truly is the perfect position for me. I love it.

So the moral to the story ... don't worry. Have confidence in yourself and your abilities and it'll happen.
