Coming off a win for the first time in five starts, Jason Marquis pitches against the New York team he didn't root for while growing up in the Big Apple.
"I was a Yankee fan," he said. "You always picked one or the other growing up. Either you were a Yankee or a Mets fan, or an Islander or a Ranger fan."
He has always pitched well against the second New York team, compiling a 3-1 record and 2.96 ERA since 2003.
Marquis will face the Mets and Jose Lima to complete a three-game series at Busch Stadium. The last time "Lima Time" made an appearance against the Cardinals lineup, he pitched a shutout for the Dodgers in Game 3 of the 2004 Division Series.
This year, Lima is coming off of two starts where he allowed 10 earned runs in 9 2/3 innings.
Pitching matchup
NYM: RHP Jose Lima (0-2, 9.31 ERA)
This will be Lima's first appearance against the Cardinals since May 21, 2005, when he was with the Royals. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits in five innings, but took a no-decision in the Cardinals' 6-5 win.
STL: RHP Jason Marquis (4-2, 4.27 ERA)
Marquis' best pitch is a fastball that he can spot on both sides of the plate. He accomplished that in his last start, throwing his best for the first time in more than a month. The right-hander allowed one run in seven innings against Arizona.
Player to Watch
Albert Pujols is on an 0-for-13 skid, but he could break out of it against Lima. Pujols holds a .375 (6-for-16) average with a homer against the right-hander.
