Those stats are so misleading. One cannot tell me that New York and Los Angeles puts you in a sense of safety, whereas St. Louis and Albuquerque are the opposite.

Like in every city, it depends on the neighborhood in which you venture into. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the city of St. Louis' crime rate comes from a handfull of selected areas. There are some areas on the northside that have much fewer crimes than the rest.

I've been to Albuquerque. I love that place.

The only reason for NY and LA making the safe list, is purely based on the very large population.

Remember---"that had the most reported crimes per 1,000 citizens" St Louis is not as big but the crime seems to always be here. There does not seem to be a day without something on the news about a crime. Those crimes tend to be on the north side of the city as well. It lists STL at 350,336 and for every 1000 people there are over 150 crimes.

Now what exactly the crimes are it does not say. Could be a simple battery to a murder.

I don't know what you make but I put in 40k as a round number.

A $40000 income in St. Louis MO is equivalent to a $67860 income in San Jose CA

You will need an increase of 70% to maintain your standard of living.

I had a friend that lived out there for a while. She had a 2 bedroom apartment that cost around 1100 a month. I have had that in west county and paid 775 or so (it was in 1997 though). I just did some looking up of stuff (work is that slow tonight) and the prices of things like groceries, transportation, utilities and so on are a tad higher, but not by a large amount. The housing is another story. In St Louis the median house cost is around 96k. For San Jose, it is over 400,000.
