  • why in the hell

this is ridiculous....people are talking about him going in the second round? this guy has more warning signs than any other person in the draft I can remember, with the possible exception of Lawrence Phillips. Why in the hell would you throw ANY money at him?

    anyone?
    Are you on the list?

Unfortunatley, sometimes the "problem" players actually produce. (see: R. Moss, W. Sapp)
. . . and to tell you this: I work with gays, have friends who are gay, go to church with gays. Most of them are aware that I believe that homosexual behavior is sin. Some of them actually agree. Most don't. It's OK . . . because they also know or at least have been made aware of my multitude of sins: adulterous heart, lustful and covetous behavior, wicked pride, angry spirit . . . do I need to go on?

He seems like the kind of player Martz would love to draft.
Asked what he would do differently in Iraq, Kerry said, "Right now, what I would do differently is, I mean, look, I'm not the president, and I didn't create this mess so I don't want to acknowledge a mistake that I haven't made."

The difference between a Moss, who hasn't really been a problem in the NFL, or sapp and Clarett is that they had resumes when they were draft eligible. Maurice played one year of college, got caught up in god knows what kind of legal issues, sued the NFL and even showed up to the combine woefully out of shape.

        Just makes no sense.

Because the guy is loaded with talent. Who cares if he showed up at the combine out of shape? From all accounts, he did really well at his personal workout.

The only issue I have with him is he hasn't yet shown durability. If not for that, he'd probably be a first round pick.

40 times aren't everything, but his isn't too impressive. Combine that with his lack of proven durability and his age, and I think it's a very risky pick.

              SLUBLUE -

howard balzer is pretty certain that he and Williams will not be allowed to enter the draft - the NFL is appealing this week and Balzer thinks the NFL will win.

I personally wouldn't want to see Clarett in a Rams jersey, but how about another QB?

If Martz could trade up to get his "dream QB, Roethlisberger, would you support it?

Every pick is a risky one. Clarett is a very tough inside runner, has enough breakaway speed, and is an excellent receiver. He might not be a great player for a couple years but I think he will be an above-average running back in the NFL.

If the NFL wins their appeal, something better be done about Mike Williams. He played by the rules the whole time and will be getting screwed over in a big way--he won't be allowed into the draft but won't be allowed back at SC because he hired an agent.

Could he go to the CFL for a season?

Sure he could...but how is that fair to him? Like I said, Mike Williams played by the rules that existed at the time. He didn't sue the NFL, he didn't challenge the system. He was told sophomores could enter the draft. And now he's going to have to go to Canada for a year?

                        I couldn't disagree more.

Clarett's workouts have been called "mixed" and that's a compliment. ((example) He spent a full year off football and it seems he didn't do anything.

On top of that he has injury concerns, as his only year playing at a high level he missed all or part of 5 games and has a shoulder injury to boot (the type of injury that will dog a RB for a career)

And what makes it worse, he has personal maturity issues as well.

The NFL draft is traditionally for ready players. It's a place where a foot injury 3 years ago can take a 1st round caliber OT and knock him out of the 1st day of the draft.

Clarett will be drafted because of the OSU hype around him. He's got talent, but only average NFL talent.

That being said, there's so much hooplah over him that he'll probably end up being drafted higher than he deserves, and I have little doubt that if he's on the board when the Rams draft in the 3rd round, Martz will take him.

I would be very surprised if Clarett falls to the Rams third round pick. I think there's a good chance he'll be taken in the second round.

                            There's also a good chance:
                            -he'll have personal problems
                            -he'll have injury problems
-he'll never rush for 1000 yards in a single season
-he'll be more known for his failures than his successes

I hope he does get picked by another team. It'll be a waste of a pick, cap room and a roster spot. I hope the 49ers or Seahawks pick him.
