  • The Official 'What the Blues Should Do' Thread

    Fire Pleau
Fire Kitchen (he did alright but a GM wants his own man)
Dump Demitra for whatever you can get
Trade Tkachoke for whatever you can get (absorb some salary if necessary)
Trade Weight (handy player but makes way too much money for what he contributes)

Keep the defense and Pronger and build around them

Trade Osgood but if you can't get something decent keep him but make him the backup

Get a young promising goalie or give Sanford and Divis a chance

Keep Sillinger...he's a handy guy and Drake but let the rest of older guys go

For Demitra, Walt and Weight we must get some young forwards and let them play

Be prepared to miss the playoffs for a 2-3 years

What do you guys and gals think?

They would have to make a qualifying offer to keep Demitra, which I don't think they will do. So they will never have the opportunity to trade him.

I think they must qualify Pronger. It will cost $10 million. Then they have to decide whether he fits in the long range plans.

As much as I hate to say it, Pleau and Kitchen aren't going anywhere thanks to the ridiculous contracts both were given this year. These two moves alone really baffle me and defy logic.

      Another thing.

Tkachuk and Weight will be almost impossible to move unless the Blues pay 2/3 of tthe remaining contracts. Both of these guys are declining and not the players they once were.

I would be ok keeping Weight if we can't move him withour eating too much of his contract....I'd dump Tkachoke even if I have to pay 1/2 his contract. I don't think it would take more than that. The guy does produce in the regular season after all.

Perhaps you just let Demitra walk. I would not want to risk actually having to pay him if he can't be traded.

          You forgot about firing Sauer.

          First things first.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

Unless we have a new Gm all we're doing is poking holes in the air with our finger...

I can't imagine Laurie firing Sauer and PLeau..I'd settle for PLeau being fired..

              Its a freaking mess..

Eleven of the 16-teams that made the playoffs have payrolls substationlly lower than the Blues and Colorado's is slightly higher...

They've won one playoff series in the last three years with this overpaid corps group of players and that was against a (and I'm being kind) average "hawks team..

There's no chemistry and no leadership..

Those are the facts..yet fans can find some reasoning to keep the management
              team afloat..

I have not been able to watch a Blues game since Scott Stevens was awarded to Jersey.

Yep that's what I was going to say too. It's been this organizations biggest problem and the reason they can't do anything. Of course this will only happen when new management is brought in.

                    1. Clean house. Fire Sauer, fire Pleau. The one guy in management I would keep is Jarmo Kekelainen, the new director of scouting they stole from Ottawa last year. He did a terrific job of drafting numerous quality players for Ottawa so I'm glad the Blues were able to hire him.

                    2. Hire a general manager fully and totally committed to rebuilding. None of this half-way stuff. The Blues have never ever been serious about BUILDING a team. They've always tried to take shortcuts to success. By now, it should be painfully obvious that this is a poor idea. So hire a GM who has the balls to trade away name players for prospects and draft picks and who has an eye for young talent. And one who also has the balls to miss the playoffs for a few years but also with thick enough skin to handle the early criticism the majority of the fanbase will heave upon him for ending the precious streak. The Blues haven't had such a GM in forever.

                    3. Let the new GM decide what to do with Mike Kitchen.

                    4. Get Barret Jackman and Christian Backman signed to long-term deals. Give Chris Pronger a qualifying offer but try to sign him to a long-term deal at a reduced rate.

                    5. Get rid of Tkachuk and Demitra, even if it means not qualifying Demitra and picking up half of Tkachuk's salary. They can get rid of Weight too but if he stays, he stays. Tkachuk and Demitra do not deserve to wear the Bluenote.

                    6. Give Al MacInnis some sort of role in the organization.

                      Brian Burke?

Brian Burke would be my choice. He's built an exciting, competitive team on a $35 million budget and his franchise is one of the few that has turned a profit over the last few years.

And Burke is a tough SOB who doesn't care what others think. I like that about him.

That day was one of the worst in my life. When I heard on the radio Houston's ruling it felt like a knife had been stuck in my back.
