Bush, Cheney Got Other al-Qaeda Alerts, Washington Post Says
April 14 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. President George W. Bush saw a stream of reports warning about al-Qaeda's intentions before he received the Aug. 6, 2001, brief headlined ``Bin Laden Determined To Strike in U.S.,'' the Washington Post said, citing newly declassified information released yesterday by the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks.
Vice President Dick Cheney and Bush's top national security team also saw the reports, including warnings in April and May 2001 that Osama bin Laden was planning ``multiple operations,'' that his network's plans were ``advancing'' and that his ``threats are real,'' the Post said, citing the reports.
The Central Intelligence Agency, while not knowing when or where or how the terrorists would strike, ``consistently described the upcoming attacks as occurring on a catastrophic level, indicating that they would cause the world to be in turmoil,'' the Post quoted one of two commission staff reports as saying.
