Folks got me the DVD set for Xmas.

        Amazing.

Winters was a stud. It was amazing seeing him alive and well.

yeah, the guys who are still alive...cool...and a great book too..and everyone swears the series is right on.

Hanks and Spielberg did a great job of getting a whole bunch of hungry no name actors (with a few names mixed in) to play these guys...they really put them through hell too....you look at the guy who plays malarkey at the beginning compared to the guy at the end he looks like he's been through the ringer...good stuff.

It's a movie like this that reminds me why they are the greatest generation.

My grandfather, who faught in the Battle of The Bulge and lost his brother in the Pacific, is my hero. I'm thankful he's still in great health and I get to talk to him nearly everyday.

Does he like to talk about the war and what he saw?

I saw it when it was originally aired on HBO. I then got the DVD set and have watched the whole series again -- twice. Now I'm enthralled with it on the History Channel.

The part that gets me the most is the end of the last episode when the real Winters is talking and reflecting on a question posed to him by his grandson. "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" "No", Winters replied. "But I served with a company of heros."

I consider this to be the best docu drama I have ever seen.

And I am re-watching on the History Channel............I'm glad they got the shot to put it on................
