  • How to fix baseball revisited

The umpire had a fluctuating strike zone all day and the Alomar clearly knocked the ball out of Womack's glove on purpose.

Having instant replay from the booth would affect baseball very little because most blown calls are obvious and would take little time - and there is so much standing around I don't anyone would notice.

Having an electronic strike zone would finally give the game a true strike zone that wouldn't fluctuate from game to game and batter to batter.

I like it - but then I've always like replay.

I realize I'm in the minority, here.

That's a dumb idea!...because of...um...because of...er...Well I don't know what would be wrong with a standardized strike zone...I'm sure some "purist" will take some bizarre offense to the idea...You would still need an umpire back there to make judgement calls, but they're obviously biases toward certain pitchers, and let other emotional issues interfer with the way they call balls & strikes...
. . . and to tell you this: I work with gays, have friends who are gay, go to church with gays. Most of them are aware that I believe that homosexual behavior is sin. Some of them actually agree. Most don't. It's OK . . . because they also know or at least have been made aware of my multitude of sins: adulterous heart, lustful and covetous behavior, wicked pride, angry spirit . . . do I need to go on?

if that was the case, they should have taken phil mickelson's nervous breakdown/pitch for the tigers drama seriously

          buh dum dum crash

          seriously, tip your waitresses fuckball!

in other words, i know this is completely moronic, but i like human error as part of the baseball game....probably because i don't bet on baseball.....football should be officiated by 8 eyed robots with a motion capture film crew that would make the matrix look simple
          Are you on the list?

The only think in football comparable to the way balls & strikes are called is the way the refs arbitrarily call holding...baseball officials are out-of-control...I wouldn't be opposed to strict controls on the umpires, and seriously weeding-out all of the nut-jobs...
The last thing I go to a baseball game to notice is the umpire so if I do - he has nine times out of ten done something wrong - and in baseball it is so easily corrected. It's sort of like the sterioid issue. Baseball doesn't want the game to be right, as if doing the right thing would somehow hurt the product.

No replay in baseball...I ahve no logical argument other than I don't want it.

Now, i would like to see better enforcement and training. The srikezone should definately be bigger. I belevie the size of the strikezone is the biggest factor in the rise to HR in todays game.

To be a strike, the ball basically must be in the wheelhouse. Lets expand that a bit.

The strike zone was between the letters and the knees for years. Think of your power pitchers back in the day: Gibson, Koufax, Drysdale, McDowell, Marischal...how did they pitch? Fastball above the hands, breaking pitch down. Then came 1968. After that, all of a sudden, you had the incredible shrinking strike zone. Everything had to be down, basically between the belt and the knee. Most hitters learned to be low-ball hitters, because that's where the strikes were. Pitchers couldn't throw high strikes, because now that pitch was a ball, and a "high" strike was in the hitters power zone.
Just call the strike zone as written, between the letters and the knees...don't need mechanical umps. (An aside; I used to enjoy trying to figure an ump's strike zone, the width of it I mean. Some were strictly 17" wide; some gave you the black; some gave you the building.)

rdog, agree, I meant the called strike zone expanded not the rule book strike zone.

Just call it like it is written. HR would go down drastically, but hits may increase which would lead to an all around more entertaining product. More poeple on base, more steals, more hit and runs, etc...

Expand the "called" strikezone and raise the mound. That may be going too far.
Let the hitters keep their armor. within reason
