  • Spybot vs. Ad-Aware - Which is better?

I downloaded Spybot yesterday for the first time just to see if I had any garbage I didn't want. The only thing it found was Gator software from back when I had Kazaa installed.

How does it rate versus Ad-Aware? I looked at reviews for Ad-Aware at Download.com, and they were about 80% favorable. However, the ones that gave a thumbs-down almost all indicated they started having problems after d/l'ing it, and eventually had to re-install the OS.

Some of the thumbs-up reviews indicated that they used Ad-Aware in conjunction with Spybot.

Any recommendations? Should I d/l Ad-Aware and use it with Spybot, just keep Spybot, or get rid of Spybot and use Ad-Aware.

    Thanks for any help, folks.

    Run both, not a joke.

I agree, I use both, and have had no problems.

What's the web site for Spybot Search and Destroy? I haven't had any luck finding it.

I think I concur with Rusty and Yaks' recommendation to run both.

I downloaded Spybot yesterday, and just got Ad-Aware today.

Ad-Aware found a couple things that Spybot didn't catch.

I'd assume that both may find stuff the other may miss.

I have a question about this spyware stuff. How does it get loaded onto my machine? Is it because I have DSL now and the connection is always on? I ran spybot about a week ago (based on recommendations of some of you smart guys here - thanks!) and it removed a bunch of stuff. I have an idea of where I might have picked up some of the stuff, but yesterday I logged on and I had a Lycos slideshow icon and something called bounce or something like that both on my desktop. I ran spybot again and it identified them and removed them.

I haven't downloaded anything since last week's episode. How does this stuff come back like that?
