  • 'Qaeda tapes' warn of more attacks

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- Tapes attributed to Osama bin Laden's top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, have warned that more terror attacks are coming and criticized France's push to ban Islamic head scarves in schools.

I thought we were out of the woods since GW2...given the proof that there have been no attacks since.

Moe, I just can't understand that kind of comment.

Reggie regularly cites the fact that there have been no attacks as evidence that the Iraq invasion "worked." I think this argument is ludicrous.

This is only a threat of attack, not an actual attack. Sorry to rain on your parade.

The threat of an unspecified terror attack is in and of itself a terror attack. And it's a lot cheaper and easier to organize than flying jets into buildings.

Getting rid of Saddam was an objective Good Thing™. It needs no further justification, but it has one - with no Iraqi threat to Kuwait, the US is now free to withdraw all forces from the Arabian peninsula, the Persian Gulf, and the Red Sea. That will certainly have an effect on terrorism, because that group of extremists that want to attack America because we're intruding on holy land will have no further argument.

The only effective way to actually eliminate this particular source of terrorism is to remove their economic support permanently. And that means being independent of Persian Gulf oil. If that happened, the Saudis could no longer fund these guys and the whole area would go back to being a backwater sandpatch like it was in the fifties.

                  Couldn't agree more, new friend.

However, the catch (there's always a catch, right?) is that weaning ourselves off Persian Gulf oil would require sacrifice. Apparently, inexplicably, sacrifice isn't in our "war president's" model.

Heck, we don't even have to pay for it until later...the Chinese and Japanese will loan us the money...what a great deal.
