Dear Mr and Mrs. Duncan,
Regarding your recent comments (published in Bernie's column), we appreciate your suggestions on how we should spend our money.
However, it is difficult to take such comments seriously when sub-par players drive purple Lamborghini's and the manager makes almost double the salary of the team's entire bench. We give to charity, spend hundreds of dollars to take a family of four to baseball games (providing Dave with his salary - and footing the bill for some of those great parties you attend with the owners). We'll choose how we spend our disposable income, thank you.
Dewitt, Jocketty, LaRussa, and Dave are all professional public figures -each making profits or salaries from the pockets of fans. They should expect criticism and they get much less of it in St. Louis than they would in New York, Boston or Philadelphia.
Do not preach to us about being Cardinal fans. Most of us were here supporting the Cardinals long before LaRussa and Dave were hired, long before Torre, Herzog, and even Schoendienst. We will still be here supporting the Cardinals long after Dewitt has sold the team and LaRussa and Dave are relegated to footnotes in Cardinal history.
Will you both still be a Cardinal's fan 20 years from now and spending money to see ballgames?
Sincerely,
Cardinal Faction (aka. Banner Demons)
