The NCAA’s week-long early signing period begins today, and Missouri expects to have half of its 2006 basketball recruiting class locked up by this evening.

Coach Quin Snyder’s staff, which has four scholarships to offer next season, are awaiting national letters of intent from junior college forward Ty Morrison and high school guard Keon Lawrence.

Steve Eck, Morrison’s coach at Redlands Community College in Oklahoma, said his star player would finalize his paperwork as soon as he got out of class this morning.

The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Morrison, who verbally committed to the Tigers in September, is ranked as the No. 3 junior college prospect in the country, according to He averaged 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman.

Morrison has led Redlands to a 3-0 start this season, including a 72-63 victory last night against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, and he scored 21 points and handed out eight assists last Thursday night in Dallas with members of the Missouri coaching staff in attendance.

Lawrence, a 6-4, 180-pound guard from Newark, N.J., is also expected to sign today after committing to MU in early July.

He averaged more than 20 points each of the past two seasons at Weequahic High School.
