I won't even pretend to know alot about the NBA, but will Darko have a chance to improve and live up to his drafting spot? What was Detroits thinking at the time? Carmelo was great during March Madness last year. So why didn't that carry over to him going above a player that had only played in Europe?

      Because Detroit was stupid.

I don't care what Hullie says about this. The Pistons will regret this for the rest of time.

I will never claim to know the NBA, but I'd always thought so too. Why take a chance on a foreign high schooler when you can have the real deal?

They were lucky that their trade for that pick ended up as a number two overall, they shouldn't have chanced it further by taking Darko.

It was the best thing to ever happen to Melo. Larry Brown might have screwed him up mentally, and would have definitely held him back. He's terrible with young players.

Well, speaking of bad moves made by Detroit, I think they downgraded by going from Carlisle to Brown.

Was he screwing them up in Philly?

This argument still has a long way to go, devaskar.

BTW, Detroit may have been stupid, but their GM probably knows the difference between who's and whose.

It was a colossal blunder by Detroit. They were one player away from being really, really good, and they had an opportunity to have their franchise help define an ERA in the NBA by setting up a 'melo/LeBron rivalry. Would have been really, really cool.

That story was right on.....scouts pass on a sure thing and roll the dice way to often in Basketball....it's unreal.
                  Are you on the list?

Yeah, there is still a long way to go.

But I just feel that strongly about Carmelo. Dumars is a great GM but I will be shocked if he doesn't ultimately regret this decision.

as an NBA fan, I really feel cheated by the move.

                        LOL

                        You are kidding, right?

It's not about being cheated as a fan or not. It's that I think Dumars passed over a 15-time all-star in favor of a big man with a nice outside touch who probably will be soft and not be a good defender. And the explanation is because they have Tayshaun Prince already.
