    'A devastating injury'
Miami RB Moss expected to miss remainder of season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Running back Tyrone Moss is expected to miss the remainder of Miami's season with what's believed to be torn ligaments in his left knee.

Hurricanes coach Larry Coker said an MRI would probably be performed Monday to confirm the severity of the injury, which Moss suffered Saturday night in the first quarter of Miami's 27-7 win over previously undefeated Virginia Tech.

"It's a tragedy to lose Tyrone Moss," Coker said Sunday, while announcing that he expects the injury to be season-ending for Moss -- who ran for a team-best 701 yards and 12 of Miami's 14 rushing touchdowns this season.

Moss suffered the injury while being tackled by Virginia Tech's Tim Sandidge and James Anderson with 2:20 left in the opening quarter. He went up the middle, got hit first by Sandidge from the left -- and his knee appeared to buckle while getting wrapped up by Anderson, who came over from his right side.

He limped to the sideline, was examined by team trainers in the locker room and eventually emerged on crutches and in street clothes.

"It's a devastating injury for him," Coker said.

Moss' replacement, Charlie Jones, had 97 yards on 24 carries. He'll be the starter next Saturday when Miami visits Wake Forest, Coker said.

"I wasn't really surprised by it at all," Coker said. "I was encouraged by it and happy for him."

Moss would be the third Miami running back in the last four seasons to suffer a season-ending knee injury. Willis McGahee was hurt in the 2002 national championship game against Ohio State, and Frank Gore missed the 2002 season and then most of 2003 after tearing ligaments in both knees.

Weird how Miami RBs keep tearing their knees up. Real bad coincidence.

This really sucks, but the freshman, Charlie Jones, is a good one and should fill in rather nicely.

And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.
