The Democrats must stop playing to the quacks and put more emphasis on the average middle class family.

Shouldn't be too hard. I don't think many of them believe in what they preach anyway.
Asked what he would do differently in Iraq, Kerry said, "Right now, what I would do differently is, I mean, look, I'm not the president, and I didn't create this mess so I don't want to acknowledge a mistake that I haven't made."

                I have a better idea.
How about the Demos at least attempt to give a definitive answer.

                Support gay marriage?
                Y/N

                Support stem cell research?
                Y/N

                etc.

(Yes I understand there will always be dissent in the party, and that a variety of Repulicans flip-flop and a few Demos do not. I'm talking parties as a whole)

But just once, stick with your answers. Don't weasel out of them. By trying to offend nobody you gain the interest of nobody.
"Whaddya mean I hurt your feelings?"
                "I didn't know you
                had any feelings"

I think where he is coming from is most people don't really care about gay rights

They need to hammer on the budget, energy, growing the economy, shrinking the deficit...do those things are things will get better a lot of people.

While gays, minorities and poor people are typically part of the Democratic constituency, I just don't see many examples where they've actually been appealing to their base.

++ on that. Many folks think McCain's an attention whore. I don't necessarily buy that. I think he has good ideas that he wants to get out there.

I think McCain's an "old school" politician who's wise to the ways of the 21st century.

I come from a heavily Democratic background. As I've gotten older and wiser, I've strayed from the "Vote the party" line of thinking.

I'm a little confused -- when has any Democratic presidential candidate made the election about how bad the Republican was? Gore didn't -- his campaign bumbled around too much. Kerry didn't -- they never hit hard on Bush's credibility or punch back on swift boats. You're right that this was on the average Democratic voter's mind, but if anything the campaigns didn't play this up enough.

Gay right -- the problem the Democrats have is that they play both sides of the issue. Either say you're not ready for that or say you embrace it but that no one cares about it. Both choices are politically sound because they take the issue off the table.

Also, Democrats are the ones talking about the thing average Americans care about. For example, health care is for all intents and purposes a Democratic issue and they've been talking about it for seventeen years now. The problem is not that the Democrats aren't talking about the right issues, the problem is that the average American doesn't trust government to implement solutions to these problems. As much as Americans are distrustful of economic power, they're more distrustful of government power right now.

                              Game, set, match...Republicans.
