• My first-ever Give Me Advice thread

So a friend and I went to a certain bar in Chicago last Thursday for dollar bottle night. We had maybe four or five beers each ($10, for those of you doing the math) and split a pizza (let's be generous and say $15). I paid with my debit card; don't remember what the exact amount was, and I didn't keep the receipt.

Today, I look at my online statement and see that they charged $75 to my card.

No, I was not drunk. No, I did not order shots for the whole bar in honor of the White Sox. I'm pretty gd sure I didn't leave a $50 tip.

    What do I do now?

Sarcastic answers and insults also appreciated.

    Thank you.

They probably just authorized $75. The payment, whatever it was, will go through in the next few days.

LVR is spot on. Credit Card companies always authorize more than what was charged. Check it in a couple of days and you should see the actual charge.

Did you have some rare delicacy as a topping on your pizza to have it cost $40?

Screw their "authorization" thing. Act rashly! Go in there, order $75 worth of stuff, and then bolt!!!!

                      Do the right thing.

Would you like some different advice about hanging out with men in bars?

LVR can probably help with that one too.

If you're in a pinch and want to know right away, you could call the bar and ask them their policy for debit/credit card authorizations.
