  • How many bad things really happen?

The avian flu deal got me thinking ... how often do really bad things that people predict actually happen?

Since I've been on earth, the top three have been:

    Ice age
    Nuclear war
    Another great depression

    None have happened.

Overblown by the media? People wrong? Luck? Are we too smart for ourselves, meaning do we think about the most negative thing and then talk about it until it's in the ground.

Did they have things like this in the 1800s? Early 1900s? that weren't tied to religion?

    Is man just fatalistic?

I have more concern driving on I270 on a daily basis, than I do any cataclismic event.

Thing is, all of those items you mention grote--they already happened once.

Our society tends to both learn from prior experience as well as fear it unduly.

Then something we haven't had happen before, like Katrina, say, happens, and it totally blindsides us.

The unknown always scares me more than the known.

it will only take one to greatly change the way we live

Eventually....there will be a cataclysmic type of event

              In our lifetime?...no one knows

The Spice Girls were pretty bad.

                      I don't worry about things I can't control.

I'm too young and too handsome to get wrinkles on my pretty little face.
