I kind of figured it out -- you have to come up with the best combination in order to maximize your growth... although that's probably the same instructions you came up with.

hint - try to get the spinning pole in first then after 1 or 2 levels later, put in the tornado and eventually it'll hit the spinning pole and give u anywhere from 3000 to 6000 bonus points.
