  • Cardinals likely to soon announce Suppan's option exercised

    From Rotoworld.com:

The Cardinals will likely soon announce that they're exercising Jeff Suppan's $5 million option for next season.
There's a $1 million buyout attached, making it an easier decision for the Cardinals. Suppan will join Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder in next year's rotation. Jason Marquis and Anthony Reyes could occupy the final two spots, but the Cards may try to re-sign Morris and then trade Marquis. They could also bring in a veteran or two to compete with Reyes.

      Good.

And I hope I never see Matt Morris in a Cardinal uniform again.

I'm happy to hear that about Suppan. I don't dislike Morris at all and it would be okay with me if he came back.

I don't think think they'll deviate much from what we're used to seeing them spend....

                This was a no brainer.

                  Talk about a tough choice.

Are those the only two alternatives?

Could we not sign Morris and still trade Marquis?

                    Depends on what we'd get.

Conventional wisdom says Marquis could fetch an outfielder.

                    I'm not so certain.

Depends on who you're dealing with on the other end...

I think they just need to let Morris go.....

They say FA pitchers will go for a big premium this off-season.

Which, I think, means let Morris go and trade Marquis while it's a seller's market.

But who becomes the 5th starter?

I thought we were rid of him after last season.

I see Morris going to Detroit.

                              Anthony Reyes?

Is he the one to break the streak of young pitchers being destroyed in St. Louis?
