  • Tropical Storm Alpha May Be Forming In Caribbean

    Damn.

MIAMI -- It may not be news that anyone wants to hear, but Local 10's Don Noe says a storm that will break the current record may be getting ready to form in the eastern Caribbean.

As of late Friday afternoon, the winds in the system were just below tropical storm strength.

If the system reaches tropical storm strength, it will be the first storm in recorded weather history to be named Alpha.

There are six lists of hurricane names that are rotated and contain 21 names each. The letters q, u, x, y and z are not represented. If the list for a year is depleted, the names given are the letters of the Greek alphabet beginning with Alpha.

If Alpha develops into a hurricane, it will be one of a kind. According to the naming policy, if a Greek-letter hurricane becomes a major storm, that letter will be retired to prevent confusion if the 21 available names in any future season are all used.

The weather system is located near the Windward and Leeward Islands east of Puerto Rico, and it is slowly moving west. It is far too early to predict how the storm might develop or where it would go.
But wait. There is something that can be done afterall. My good friend Angelo is a cop in the Tampa/Clearwater area. Since I kept all of the files from the access logs when I had the power to see them, guess what, I have everyone's IP addresses. Hmm..what can I do w/ those??

If a hurricane was named after you, would you want it to be a weak little cat 1 or something more in the cat 5 range? I mean, I wouldn't want a weak one but maybe not something as devastating as Katrina. That could get depressing after a while hearing your name associated with so much death. I really feel sorry for all those named Katrina out there.

One was named after my wife. The following one was named after me. Coincidence?

And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

Hers did some damage, not much. Mine did some damage in Spain and Portugal, again, not much.

It's funny, it just runs in cycles, this year is no worse than years in the past...

Uh we ran out of name for the first time ever, Cat 5 at 175 miles per hour, lowest pressure in recorded history....

But hey, this is not anything different.
