  • Not a topic about Ryan Fitzpatrick

Since 2002, when Jamie Martin came in after three Kurt Warner passes and finished with a loss to Dallas, he has followed that up with 3 more losses in 2002, a meaningless victory in the last game in relief of Scott Covington, a loss to the Cardinals in relief of Chandler in 2004 and a loss last Monday night.

I know that a lot of fans are wondering about why it is set in stone that Martin is the only way to go.

The St. Louis sports media is not wondering. They know something we do not know. They are not going to share. They are not going to say anything.

If you know something we don't, please feel free to share. So far as I know, there are no great hidden secrets about Martin...unless, again, you know something we don't. 'Course, I'm just a NASCAR guy who only covers the NFL part-time, so I may have missed that meeting...

What I know is that fans are talking about this subject. The media is not. Not basing that on responses to these two topics, but rather on what people in the bars and restaurants who talk about sports are actually talking about when they talk about the Rams. You would know better than I---and I am sure your people will find more important things to poll people on than whether fans would like to get a look at Fitzpatrick instead of Martin.

If anyone in the media has raised any questions about this blind faith in Martin---please let me know. Do they know that Tom Brady was a sixth round pick? Do they know Martin has 6 losses and one meaningless victory since 2002? Do they know some reason why they should not even talk about Fitzpatrick?

I don't know anything beyond what I can look up. I depend on the media to furnish information.

There should be a buzz, or at least a hum about how soon we get to see Fitzpatrick.

I am really glad this question was part of the Exit Grind's poll. I was not surprised at the fans being about 80 percent in favor of Fitzpatrick.

My take on the media is that nothing could be accomplished by making any waves about Fitzpatrick over Martin, because barring something really terrible, it will not happen Sunday. And if Martin performs really well, it could make anyone who was raising the issue look foolish.

Still, it seems weird that Slaten is so completely silent about it, other than sarcastically quoting Martz about Martin, and that the four dead serious roundtable guys from ten to twelve on kfns did not say anything much about the Rams qb situation. The Post Dispatch ran a story about the return of Jeff Smoker. Bernie ignored my plea on his site to free Ryan Fitzpatrick.

I expect Martin to have a difficult time on Sunday, and media people will probably have more to say. At least two members of the Grind said they would like to see Fitzpatrick.

Vitt said yesterday at his conference he MIGHT play Fitzpatrick...and in an effort to please my Lounge brothers, I tried to get Frank to bring up why Martin is Martz's boy today on the Roundtable, but no go...
