  • The Big Question:

    Will never understand it.

Even if you put the tying run on second, the chances of Reggie getting a hit, much less doing what Albert did, against Lidge are highly remote.

I'd make Reggie Sanders beat me every time.

Ridiculously dumb move by Garner to pitch to Albert.

By no means am I complaining, however.

But the stupidity of Garner rises its ugly head.

    I disagree.

I don't think you put the tying run on 2nd there. Lidge is the best closer in the league and you gotta think he's gonna get AP. Albert didn't have a lot of success off of Lidge coming ino that at bat.

I can't stand Pujols. Did you see how cocky he is when he hits? He just strolls up there like "Yeah, there's a few more millions on my contract. I'm a pimp." At least Lance has the decency to look surprised. We're great guys and we deserve this. The fat lady hasn'e sung yet.

Uh, katman, it's because Lance WAS surprised. When you're the best player in baseball and you hit a home run, you're not surprised.

I dunno....as good as Lidge has been, that slider was:

Meat. On top of Meat. On top of MEAT.

Just a dreadful hanging slider. I'd have to put this more on him than Garner. He's been outstanding this season and post, but he made one awful pitch that let the Cards back into the series.

Actually, Berkman had that "Oh shit, am I glad I hit this weak fly ball here because it would've been a routine out at a real ballpark" look.

The key batter was Edmonds. You just can't walk him, period. You CANNOT let AP get to the plate, but Lidge got way too cute with a guy who hasn't exactly stung the ball the past two weeks.

After that, if you DO decide to pitch to Albert, fer chrissakes....don't put it on a freakin' tee for him, whatever the hell you do.

I wouldnt have walked him, unless there was already a runner on second. Then its a no-brainer.

Lidge got caught up, like some of his teammates, in the celebration of their anticipated win and lost his focus on the mound. That comes from being young and never having been there before.
“I’ve always stated, ‘I’m a Missouri Tiger,’” Anderson said March 13 after Arkansas fired John Pelphrey, adding, “I’m excited about what’s taking place here.”

Asked then if he would talk to his players about the situation, he said, “They know me, and that’s where the trust comes in.

True about Edmonds, but credit Jimmy for not expanding his zone and trying to be a hero.

I do understand pitching to AP. I would never want to put the tying run on 2B regardless of who's coming up...too much can happen, even with Sanders. My thinking: Garner says our best can defeat their best. He's earned the opportunity to get AP out, and I'm not gonna show a lack of confidence after all he's done for the club.

Back to Edmonds...after Game 4's ejection he spoke to Gammons and stated that the was upset at being tossed for a couple of reasons. 1) He didn't deserve it considering nothing of consequence was said. 2)Most important, he said, was that it did not allow AP to get an AB with RISP, and he knew he'd earned that BB.

Fast forward one game day later, he accomplishes this personal task. And you know that was in the back of his mind -- 'Gotta get on ahead of AP and give him a shot.'
