I'm sorry, but the Discovery Channel really should do an episode of Myth Busters to debunk that bullshit statement. I'm just browsing around the Cardinals message boards on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website, and it's really depressing to see their reaction to losing these past two games. These aren't fans, these are just cocky, arrogant, selfish, ignorant, whiny, morons. They're just as bad as Yankee fans, if not worse. They're the best team and so anything other than them winning means something must be wrong with the universe.
Now, granted, some of them are reasonable and seem to have a good head on their shoulders. However, the majority of them are simply furious that the Astros are even in the playoffs. "It's not fair, wah wah wah." ... "No team 11 games back should be able to get this far in the playoffs." They're even claiming Lane's slide was dirty! Why would anyone want to take our their worthless third baseman anyway? I honestly can't even think of the guy's name right now, that's how consequential he is.
These "fans" will use any excuse in the book for their beloved Redbirds losing a game. But it's definitely never their teams fault, or because they were outpitched or outplayed. No, sir! It's gotta be because the playoff system is so screwed up that the Astros might win this series! right... So tell me, Cardinal Nation, how do you feel about the 2005 Padres in the playoffs?
Astros fans are different, at least the vast majority that I know. If our team loses, we got outplayed, or we beat ourselves. We get angry and frustrated, but we don't make excuses or point fingers at random factors like whether a roof is open or closed. Maybe an umpire will occasionally draw our wrath for a blown call in a game situation, but that's about as far as our whinyness goes.
It's about time this St. Louis team dropped off the face off the earth so their spoiled rotten fans can come back down to earth and maybe become likeable again. In fact, even if the Astros win the World Series, I hope Roger comes back again for 2006 in a quest to dethrone the Cardinals from the top of the NL Central. And when these "best fans in baseball" see their beloved Cardinals take the Wild Card, what will they say then?
p.s.-Xavier please don't link to this thread. I don't want those douche bags back here ever again.
