  • 1 year ago 10/14 - Matt Browning

Saw on channel 2 tonight here in St. Louis that 10/14 was the 1 year anniversary of Officer Matt Browning getting pinned between 2 cars by a drunk driver and ultimately losing both of his legs.

I've got a somewhat interesting story about it. My wife, 1 mo. old baby (at the time) and I were in the 3rd floor of Cardinal Glennon that whole week. The room overlooked whatever street runs in front of Cardinal Glennon and SLU Hospital. All of the sudden we noticed a ton of flashing lights outside. We went over to the window and there were at least 15 cop cars parked in front of the hospital, in the middle of the street, blocking side roads, I mean everywhere. It almost looked like they were trying to block off roads in order to catch somebody so we waited for a high speed chase to come through the area. The stream of police cars kept coming and we noticed officers getting out of their cars and running to the front of the hospital. Then, the news crews arrived. We watched all of them show up and the reporters start doing live spots out front.

It's good to see that Officer Browning seems to have a good outlook 1 year out, but I'll bet this time of year with the same 2 teams playing in the NLCS brings back a lot of bad memories for him.

(For those of you outside of St. Louis, a drunk driver leaving Busch after a Cards/Astros playoff game last year plowed into a parked vehicle and pinned Officer Browning between 2 cars.)

He sounded better on Fox today than he did when he threw the ball out at Busch. IIRC, around the time of that game, he was having trouble with his first set of prosthetic legs and a great deal of trouble with phantom pains, and he sounded very depressed.

Today he sounded better and looked happier. I hope he is.
