  • Serious question

    OK, I lied.

It's not that serious at all.

If you're Mike Shannon, and you've been broadcasting baseball games for 50 years, wouldn't you really care less whether or not the Cardinals make the playoffs? After all, the sooner they bow out, the sooner he can start his vacation.

Just some of the many questions that float through my mind instead of the things I'm supposed to be thinking about.

he's worried about when the next brew is going to be set down at his table, little else.

That, and when they will be headed to Cincinapolis.

      Who knows?

I know that if he is anything like Buck was, he takes every Cardinal win and loss to heart. Think about it. Your job is to broadcast Cardinals baseball. How lucky can you be? I'd want to do if for as long as my body would allow. Wouldn't you?

KBF......i hear ya. i interned with the Missouri River Otters. me and two other guys interned for the broadcaster. it was exciting at first, but once the season got going, we got sick of going to the family arena 2 or 3 or 4 times a week. it got old. we knew we would make the playoffs, but we were rooting for the underdog team to knock us off in the first round. it took all five games, but they did it. i just remember every goal they scored, we'd pump our fist and go "YES" really soft, so no one could hear us.

Can't speak for any of 'em, but you could tell that Jack absolutely loved what he did.

Jack Buck used to say that his favorite sport to broadcast was winning baseball, and that the worst was losing baseball.

I would think Shannon would feel the same way.

I attended one of his daughter's charity functions a couple years ago. I generally avoid local "celebrities" like the plague, but Shannon ambled by and started shooting the shit. The guy is a fucking riot. Even his wankerish qualities (hitting/flirting on 20 year olds with lines that sound like something Dan Rather would say) are amusing. Really top guy in my limited exposure.

I had a couple nondescript run ins with Jack Buck over the years too. Classy guy. Not as hale, hearty and well met obviously.

Joe Buck, on the other hand, is odious.

I would keep a tidy room for Heidi Klum
I'm immersed in Kirstie Alley's thirsty valley

I want a smelly slice of Kelly Price

Joe Buck makes me want to vomit.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

Joe's actually a pretty decent guy. He comes off as an ass sometimes though. He didn't quite get all the personality gene his father had.

The more acclaim he gets, the less I like him. I thought he was tremendous starting out on the radio. These national gigs have really exposed a pretty healthy ego. Of course, I feel the same about Costas. I liked all these guys better when they weren't trying to be Letterman.

When the game is good, he is excellent.

Best thing about Joe is he isnt a KAK guy and he tells it like it is.

I hate when people say he is ANTI STL when he does national games. That isnt the case. He is a straight shooter.

Joe Buck annoys us with his schtick, because we all know where he came from. i bet he doesn't annoy people in other cities, or non-Cards fans.
