Post subject: Greetings from Houston...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got to Minute Maid about 1:30 or so.
Nothing to report yet.
Astros are working out at 3 p.m.
Cardinals at 4 p.m.

Cardinals weren't even flying out of The STL until noon, and they planned to head straight to the ballpark from the airport. (Aren't here yet).

Keep checking back and I'll update you on Sanders, Walker, potential lineup changes, etc. Joe Strauss thinks it looks bad for Sanders, based on some late-night conversations he had with Reggie and with Cardinals' people -- but I emphasize that we'll know a lot more later.

Houston players and media seem pretty confident that this one's over ... or at least that the Astros have gotten the upper hand.

Given what happened last year down there, is anyone else surprised?

Although: this is perfect bulletin board material.

They've lost 7 straight on the road in the NLCS play.
And the two in the WS last year.
That's nine consecutive road losses in LCS / WS
Looking back on it, I guess we were damn lucky not to lose them both here. That's one hell of a team they've got there, those "Houston Astros."

How in the hell did the Braves win one against that juggernaut?

We've only lost five in a row on the road in the LCS. We won game three at SF in 2002. So there.

I'd love to hear if some of our Astros fans here are interpreting the media's view the same way.......I think Ol' Bern is just stirring the pot a little.

And judging from the reactions here, it appears to be working.

Here is my Media Report

All the whacky FM DJ's here in town think the Astros are OFF THA HOOK and are convinced Billy Wagner and the big bat of Jeff Bagwell are going to lead the team to the World Series.

At the local news stations I am 100% positive the pretty faced news reporters who yells GO ASTROS at the end of their segments couldn't name more than 3 guys on the team.

As for the hacks in town that actually cover sports for a living I would say they are cautiously optimistic.

BUT, as you know we live in a reactionary society...so if Houston gets smoked tomorrow the worm will turn and the sky will begin to fall.
