    QUOTE
Fans decide to back a winner
Attention turns to Astros' game, and Texans players don't take offense

The Texans finally were able to see what it was like to have standing ovations and deafening cheers in Reliant Stadium. It hardly mattered that the applause on Sunday was for the baseball team across town.

In the second half, video screens revealed that Lance Berkman's grand slam had made the score 6-5 in favor of the Atlanta Braves in Game 4 of their playoff series.

Fans remaining in the half-filled stadium jumped up and cheered for the Astros, who eventually won 7-6 in 18 innings to advance to the National League Championship Series.

The Texans said they were hardly offended by the fans' passion for the Astros even as the Texans lost 34-20 to the Tennessee Titans.

"We have to give the fans something to root for," quarterback David Carr said. "It's not their fault. They came to watch a good football team. We didn't give it to them. We didn't give them anything to cheer for. When the Astros started playing like they did, I started cheering for them, too."

The fans started "Let's go Astros!" chants early in the second half, and some even begged for the Astros' game to be shown on the big screens. The game was shown as soon as the Texans game ended, and many fans remained in their seats instead of heading out.

The game remained on the big screens until the 14th inning when the stadium was shut down and fans were told they could watch it outside.

The Texans were hardly bitter about the attention being paid to the Astros. Instead, they said they should learn from their neighbors. On May 24, the Astros were 15 games below .500 before recovering to earn the NL wild card.

"The Astros were lower than a snake in a wagon track back in May and June," said Texans owner Bob McNair, who was watching all the updates on the big screen. "They came back. That's to their credit. We can still do the same."

The Texans hope that in the upcoming weeks they will hear their names chanted by their fans. The only resounding screams targeted toward them on Sunday were boos.

"The way the Astros are playing right now, the fans should be chanting, 'Let's go Astros!' " coach Dom Capers said. "We have to get them chanting, 'Let's go Texans!' and the only way for us to do that is to do it on the field."

I wonder if Phil Garner will let Berkman play in the Cards series.

I swear to God this is true. I know Megan. She went to University of Iowa. Great person.

As for Houston, I thought it blew away in hurricane.

Its not a baseball town, and it'll never be a baseball town. Texas is football country. The Astros are winning right now, therefore they are getting the attention. Just like the Rams got here back in 99.
