  • Peavey Out 4-6 Weeks

Cardinals take 1-0 lead; Peavy taken to hospital

Facing a team that won the West despite an 82-80 record, the Cardinals -- who led the majors with 100 wins -- opened an 8-0 cushion in the fifth inning against Padres ace Jake Peavy. He pitched with a rib injury that worsened in the third and was taken to a hospital after lasting only 4 1-3 innings.

A Padres spokesman said X-rays showed no break, and an MRI exam was planned at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Conspiracy. Pods are just trying to lay an excuse for his poor outing. Just because he shut us down once or twice this year...false hope abounds.

Man, can you imagine the reaction around here if La Russa ran one of our pitchers out there with a rib injury and this happened?

OK, we lost Reyes, Pads lose Peavey.

Time for Lidge to break his arm. Nothing serious. Just a two-monther.

                            I knew you'd say that.
