I'm not a doctor, but I find it unusual that the AP account of Carp's hand "cramps" today talks about the oppressively hot weather today as a likely cause. Carp's pitched in much hotter weather than today - the 84 degree gametime weather today would have been considered positively balmy compared to his most recent day starts - and never cramped. Why today, and what about the way Carp was pitching today that spurred them on. I don't mean to be a huge pessimist, but hand cramps sounds offly weird to me.

It's all a conspiracy.
Seriously, I watched the game and he was flexing his hand during his warm-up pitches. He seemed to be having trouble gripping the ball. Also, the actual game-time tempature was 86 degrees and the humidity was pretty high. I don't think there's some grand conspiracy going on here.*Syria becomes the 7th predominantly Muslim country bombed by 2009 Nobel Peace Laureate Barack Obama—after Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Iraq

It was rather warm and humid here today. We've had some cool temps the last few days before today.
It should be back down into the 60s Thursday.RIP Chris Jones 1971-2009

also remember that while his pitch count wasn't too high, his pitch per inning count was very high...meaning he wasn't getting much of a rest for this hand.
He was amped up being his first playoff appearance and his body had too much lactic acid.
