• Auggie Busch's great mistake cost the Card's in the 70's.

If Steve Carlton were not shipped off over a five thousand dollar dispute, the Cards would have won quite a few championships in the 70's.

Maybe 1973 or 1974, that's about it.

Lefty couldn't have done it on his own in the late 70's. but, add Torrez and Reuss and you might have something there.
But wait. There is something that can be done afterall. My good friend Angelo is a cop in the Tampa/Clearwater area. Since I kept all of the files from the access logs when I had the power to see them, guess what, I have everyone's IP addresses. Hmm..what can I do w/ those??

FYI: Auggie Busch is the nickname for the III, not Jr....think 'Gussie'

As for the Carlton mistake....I think that is one of the few blemishes on Gussie's resume as owner of the Cardinals...let's just remember that mistake was probably outweighed/evened out by Gussie's decision (after being informed by Biggie Gariagiani) in 1958 to block the trade of Stan Musial for Robin Roberts...

Refresh my memory: what did he fuck up in '81 besides being outspoken during the strike? You saying him being vociferous caused them to be left out in that ridiculous playoff 'formula'...

If Carlton is a Cardinal in 1981, we probably win it all.

Well, given that that was the topic of the thread, I figured this was a good place to post that thought.

I suppose we would have won in '85 and '87 with him on board as well.

I bet we beat the Braves in '96 with Steve Carlton.

We certainly beat the sox in 04 with Carlton.

Or, if, you know, we bunt every fucking at bat and chase Schilling out in the second inning.
