• Wanted to gloat, no time to post pix

A certain forum owner once said he'd step over his own mother to get a 30" monitor.

Well Steve, I'm stepping.

Three numbers. 30. 2560. 1600. I'm sure you know what they mean.

I've had it since Wednesday, but was waiting to post pix and comparisons (which I still plan to do) in my never-ending quest to become the king of geeky attention-whoring, but my web server is still down. I cannot hold back the boasting any more. This thing is like looking through a picture window. Went over the screen with a magnifying glass - no dead pixels, no stuck pixels, just 4,000,000+ glorious colored ones. I spent a couple hours last night configuring it, and I'm now running with 96x96 icons. Last night, while playing Half-Life 2 at 2560x1600 (all the eye-candy turned to max, of course), I was wondering how the other half lives, and thought I'd share. The twin eVGA 7800GTXs are purring away, and they're actually quieter than the 6800GTs they replaced. And in the midst of this bliss, I realized that the only thing more enjoyable than using this Apple monitor as my WinXP system's bitch would be telling a few Mac owners about it.

OK, I guess I've got that out of my system.

Anybody want an nVidia 6800GT PCI-e card, with an NV-5 Silencing cooler on it? I can make you a good deal! Seriously, PM me - I have to recoup some of this cost somehow...

Welcome to the wonderful world of big-monitor goodness, Yaks!

EDIT: Hmm, I'm seeing my sig. I wonder how that's happening, since I cleared my cache, and the web server is sitting here disassembled on my desk. Maybe the web really DOESN'T need all these servers, and it's just an elaborate hoax...

Blue, I thought about dual 30" monitors. But that would have been too much even for me, my brain hurt just thinking about it. So I simply raised the bar a little. All somebody has to do to take the title is put together a system with two 30" displays.

I'd love to be nerd king, I have a nice rig, and NOW a nice monitor, but dual eVGA 7800GTXs and the 30 inch god will keep me from ever getting to the top.

See, Yaks, thing is... Democrats don't get to be Nerd King. You've taken your first step towards card-carrying GOP status. All cool electronics are now implanted with subliminal brain manipulators that make you want to contribute to the economy by working for Halliburton. Pretty soon you'll be initiated into the brotherhood, and they'll teach you the secret handshake.

Enjoy the monitor. You know I'll have to argue with you in public, but I know which way you're trending.

I'm sure Uncle Steve doesn't care if the monitor is your WinXP's bitch. He's got your money, and you've got a kick-ass monitor.

HP is supposedly working on a 30" monitor, the 3035. It was supposed to be announced in July, but when Carly got dumped, a lot of projects got moved back. When Dell made 24" affordable, a lot of other vendors started to realize they needed to follow suit - and thus 30" became the new cutting edge. Hell you don't even need a $2000+ video card to drive one any more.

Mark my words, by this time next year at least five loungers will have 30" monitors and somebody here (probably won't be me, actually) will have either two of them or a substantially bigger one on his desk. It's alreadyquite hard to find a 15" LCD, and 17" screens will probably be dead by next year.

Unless OLED screens become available. When that happens, the sky's the limit for size.

It's cheapest from Amazon, strangely enough. Even cheaper than the teacher's discount. No tax, and $10 shipping. Check it out.

The guy at the Apple store told me that if someone were to buy one, and then return it they would have to sell it for 2000.
I was gonna make my wife go buy one and take it back
