On Barron:

"He is just like Big O," Martz said. "He is just as talented, goodness gracious, he is."

(Why was he in street clothes the first two weeks? Think any of the local media will ask?)

    More from BM's column:
    QUOTE

Martz told Barron he was up - in for Saipaia.

    Barron's reaction was priceless:

    "For real, Coach?"

Martz smiled as he recalled the kid's bulging eyes.

    Suddenly as big as balloons.

"You should have seen the look on his face," Martz said.
Heartwarming.

Didn't retard Martzie Martz just tell Slaten at the Monday press conference that nothing would make him happier if Barron wouldn't have to play this entire year? Wanted him to just learn. Everything that comes out of Martz's mouth is a lie.

Maybe he meant he's as good as Pace was at that time of his career. Pace didn't play for the first half of his first season.

He does have a tendency for hyperbole, but everything he says is a lie? You really hate the guy don't you?

He probably meant it would be nice for him to not have to play him so he could learn. Unfortunately we don't have that option so he's got to play and he's being as positive as he can about it.

I will agree his media skills are part of what leads people to hate him. He has a social disorder I think. His player seem to love him, though.

I'm glad Barron didn't start till today. Several reasons - such as give him time to get assimiliated into the offense, be aware he still a rookie no matter what, and its good to start at home for a rookie who held out most of training camp.

the fault lies with martz and others is not about barron starting now - it s about not being prepared for the possibility barron would not be ready for a while. they went with tucker and sap ??? made no sense as these two were guards not tackles.

Show me any teams that use their number 1 draft pick with the idea of not playing them and just having them learn. Number 1 picks are expected to play immediately.

Quarterbacks don't usually start right away. Running backs do. Offensive linemen sometimes don't. Pace didn't start until halfway through his first season. I think Barron will be playing the rest of the year.
