Netflix Survey Reveals Hugh Jackman as Members' Choice to Become the Next James Bond
Tuesday September 20, 3:00 am ET

LOS GATOS, Calif., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With Pierce Brosnan having recently moved on from his screen role as the immortal British secret agent James Bond, movie fans await word of who will step into the shoes of the debonair "007." According to a poll of its members by Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX - News), the world's largest online movie rental service, Hugh Jackman, the rugged Aussie best known for his starring roles in "X-Men" and "Van Helsing," is the choice to next request for his martini "shaken, not stirred." Jackman edged out British star Clive Owen in voting that fell along the following lines:

    -- Hugh Jackman 26%
    -- Clive Owen 21%
    -- Ewan McGregor 16%
    -- Jude Law 14%
    -- Orlando Bloom 6%
    -- Heath Ledger 3%

In a footnote to the survey of nearly 1,000 Netflix subscribers, women preferred the 36-year-old Jackman, who stands a Bond-like six feet, two inches, by 30 percent to 20 percent over Owen. Men, on the other hand, chose the 40-year-old Owen, who's appeared most recently in leading roles in "Closer" and "Sin City" by 23 percent to 20 percent over Jackman.

The role of James Bond is among the most enduring in film history. Created by the author Ian Fleming, the Bond character jumped onto the big screen from the pages of the best-selling espionage novels with the 1962 debut of "Dr. No," starring Sean Connery. It has since become the longest running franchise in film history. Portrayed by five actors in 20 movies over the span of four decades, "Bond ... James Bond," has international lasting power which remains unrivaled. In addition to Connery and Brosnan, actors Roger Moore, George Lazenby, and Timothy Dalton have portrayed him. The 21st installment in the series, "Casino Royale," is scheduled for release next year.

Bond titles available at Netflix include "Dr. No" (1962), "From Russia with Love" (1963), "Goldfinger" (1964), "You Only Live Twice" (1967), "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969), "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971), "Live and Let Die" (1973) "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1975), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), "Moonraker" (1979), "For Your Eyes Only" (1981), "Octopussy" (1983), "A View to a Kill" (1985), "The Living Daylights" (1987), "Licence to Kill" (1989), "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997) and "Die Another Day" (2002).

Pierce Brosnan doesn't exactly hit you as overly masculine either.

Anyone that voted for Bloom should have their netflix subscriptions taken away.

None of this matter though unless they start making better movies again. Sad.
