Suppan shoots for 16th victory
St. Louis (95-56) at Cincinnati (69-80), 6:10 p.m. CT Tuesday
By Matthew Leach / MLB.com
With Wrigley Field in their rearview mirror for the year, the Cardinals head for a place that they hope will be a bit more agreeable for them. St. Louis opens its final 2005 series at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday night.
Jeff Suppan will aim for win No. 16 on the year, which would tie a career high that he set last season. With two starts still to come after this one, Suppan has an excellent chance at a new personal best. In addition, a victory on Tuesday would get his career record to an even .500 at 94-94.
The right-hander has been pitching quite well lately, allowing a total of two earned runs over his last four starts. He's also been ringing up a few more strikeouts of late. Suppan has whiffed five or more batters in four of his last nine starts, after reaching that mark four times in his first 21 games.
Cincinnati will send left-hander Randy Keisler to the mound. Once considered a top prospect, the 29-year-old is hoping to show something that gets him a spot in the 2006 Reds rotation. He needs to make sure to keep the ball in the park -- he's allowed seven homers in 42 2/3 innings this year.
The Cards have fared well against the Reds this year, going 7-3 in the first 10 meetings. Six of St. Louis' final 12 games, including the last three of the regular season, will be against Cincinnati.
Pitching matchup
STL: RHP Jeff Suppan
• 15-10, 3.57 ERA in 2005
• 2-0, 6.88 ERA vs. CIN in 2004
CIN: LHP Randy Keisler
• 2-0, 6.54 ERA in 2005
• Has not faced STL in 2004 or 2005
Player to watch
The Reds don't seem to have a very good game plan for Reggie Sanders. The veteran outfielder -- and former Redleg -- is hitting .371 (13-for-35) with five home runs against his old club this year.
Quotable
"I think so. But how do you do that? You play as good as you can, as hard as you can. If Larry Walker's got a bum neck, you don't play him. If he needs to sit, he sits. We've been doing it all year. " -- Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, on whether home-field advantage is a target to aim for

I can only assume you were referring to John Gall. If so, you're in luck.

Mick Jagger is in better shape than far too many NBA players. It's up in the air whether the same can be said of Keith Richards.
