  • Trent Klatt retires

LOS ANGELES — Kings right wing Trent Klatt announced his retirement Monday after 14 seasons in the NHL.

Klatt played in 782 career games for the Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars-Minnesota North Stars.

He played in the 1997 Stanley Cup finals with the Flyers and was on the U.S. teams in the 1991 world junior championships and 1999 world championships.

Klatt, 34, said he wants to spend more time with his family.

"My children have been in three schools the past three years and I did not feel it was fair to them to continue this trend," he said. "My family needs stability."

He signed with the Kings as a free agent in July 2003, and had 17 goals, 26 assists and 46 penalty minutes in 82 games during the 2003-04 season. He finished third on the team in scoring and third in goals — both totals were the second-highest of his career.

Klatt was selected 82nd overall by Washington in the fifth round of the 1989 entry draft. He made his NHL debut with the former Minnesota North Stars during the 1991-92 season after playing at the University of Minnesota.

Who remembers where they were when Klatt scored his first NHL goal?

I think I was going through puberty, because I couldn't stop touching myself.
