I just got Tivo a couple days ago and it just sort of randomly records programs that I'm not setting it to record. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

before deleting the recordings press the down thumb button three times
The up thumb and down thumb are how you tell Tivo what you don't like
Why do they have it set up to just auto-record stuff in the first place?

dev,
They're paid an advertising fee to set it up that way. And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

If you don't want to pay the 13 dollar a month fee, or if you don't like having another thing with a modem invading your home, you can use an old vcr to tell it what to record. The now playing list and the ability to blast through commercials and the ability to quit bothering with videotape are the essence of what it does.v

If I can do this I own one tomorrow.Be passionate about what you believe in, or why bother.

Yaks, here is what you need to do my ACC-loving friend.
Get DirecTV. If you don't already have it, you can get a 3 room system WITH TiVo for 99$.
Excellent, excellent deal. With the TiVo, and the other two rooms, you'll actually be able to watch/record 4 unique channels at one time.
Plus, with DirecTV, the TiVo service is only 4.99$ -- a steal.
The service is worth 4.99, its not worth 13$.When you say to your neighbor, "We're having a loud party on Saturday night if that's alright with you," what you really mean is, "We're having a loud party on Saturday night."
